So how many of you have to do lists. I know I do. Some like the old pen and paper while some prefer the electronic assistance. I personally prefer pen and paper and there is something in getting all things done by the end of the day. Even some days I add things I have done just to tick it off.
While many things can be accomplished by this process, I recently discovered that prayer is not one of them. I have recently seen that prayer cannot be just another tick mark on my to do list.
Jesus Told told this when asked about prayer, ” And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. ” (Matthew 6:7)
We want it to be done like some ritual, but truly it is something more. We cannot just recite a few prayers in the bible and call it a prayer. Or Say everything on our my mind. Though prayer includes those things it would be incomplete without truly understanding what we mean and let our heart do the talking than our brains.
When we pray we are sitting in the presence of God. Do you truly believe that he cares and loves for you and is sitting in front of you and listening to what you say. Do you understand he longs to hear your heart. Remember this the next time you pray. Even if it might be a small text prayer or a deep conversation with him let it be from the heart rather than from the mind.
May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
