Which Path to Choose?

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

-The Road Not Taken by Robert frost

This is a poem I learned in High School where the author talks about two paths down a road and he is in a dilemma as to which path he wants to choose. He is faced with a dilemma everyone faces as to taking the easy and well traveled path or the difficult and less traveled path. The same way when we choose to believe God we are given two paths. The  narrow path and the wide path.

(Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7:13-14))

The path to God is not an easy one …the path to Christ is the path taken by very few because it is a difficult path and even if many people have traveled down the path it is still difficult for a person to go down it.

(Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4))

It has not been an easy journey and it will not be for you as well but keep going because the destination is worthy of all the things we go through. Though I sometimes move away from the track I only have Jesus to thank for helping me along the way. My Lord did not tell that it will be an easy path or I will be able to travel it safely but he gave a much greater promise to be with me all through the way once I start on my journey and carry my burden when I am not able to.

(Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. (Psalm 55:22))

But as he waits to carry our burden and strengthen us, we need to put our trust in the lord and take refuge in him. During our journey to the lord we see many fellow travelers who are weary sometimes and loose there way … he uses us to get them on the right path … or uses them for us to get us back on the right path.  No matter where you are on the journey to Christ always remember he is there watching and taking care of even the small things.

(God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. (Psalm 46:1))

Prepare Your-Self

The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood Before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes – Joel 2:31

The Great American Eclipse

Not many persons are there in America who would not know about the great american eclipse. Every person was so excited about it and everyone prepared for it with full zeal. All the shops are fully equipped with the equipment needed ready for the eclipse. We were telling our friends and everyone we know about it and that was the main topic every person was talking about for the last couple weeks. Even I was excited about it a lot because I was not able to experience it before and was not sure if I will be able to experience it again in my life time. So it being a once-in-a-lifetime experience makes it much more appealing and makes us enthusiastic about it.

Seeing all this buzz made me think is this how all the disciples might have felt when Jesus told he would return. They would have felt it might be very soon, that he will be returning and have felt so much more excited about it. The same way they must have felt the need to share it with as many people as possible so that they would come to believe in Christ. They must have shared it with family, friends and neighbors and everyone they knew. When that did not satisfy them they went to Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth to proclaim it.

(And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth(Acts 1:8)).

They would have felt the burden that souls would be lost and wanted to give up their own lives to saves as many lives as possible. They would have wanted to spread the Gospel to everyone before the day of the Lord came. The lives they led reflected that.

(For zeal for your house consumes me(Psalm 69:9))

Let us ask our-self, if we knew that Jesus was coming very soon or even today, would we all behave the same way that we do today. Would we be so relaxed in sharing the gospel. Is the zeal of the Lords house consuming us and pushing us to do the work we are supposed to do. Let us spread the Gospel the same way and anticipate the day of the lord the same way we have looked forward for the eclipse. As we read the Gospel and the books of new testament written by the disciples let us have the same zeal for sharing the good news.

(Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven. (Acts 1:11))

Do not Admit Defeat

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth – Psalm 145:18

When we are at the lowest point in our lives or even on a regular day if you feel like you cannot do it anymore remember to not give up. On these days that seems like you cannot love yourself or you cannot do the things God is destined us to, remember that we have an everlasting Father who is faithful and the holy spirit as our counselor (But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.(John 14:16)). But today it is not about God being there for us but what we need to do to feel that peace and joy that only Jesus could give. This is about our part when faced with such circumstances.

What we need to do when we are at the lowest point in our lives, when we face the guilt of sin on our shoulders. It is our part to pick up the broken pieces of failure or disappointments or what ever you are facing today and moving on towards God and his will for our life, like Samson did when he fell in his life. He lost everything (his honor, his freedom, his strength). But instead of sitting and feeling guilty he started his relation with God again. He did not give up on himself. This made him again grow in the Lord. (But the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaved(Judges 16:22)). If he gave up when he lost at that moment, he would have not fulfilled the purpose of his life that God has already planned for him. (He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.(Judges 13:5))

In today’s world it would be very easy to fall into sin. Often times we give up on our self when we do that. Though we might be fallen today and think it is impossible to get up and recover from what you have done or even if you think it is impossible for redemption, remove all those thoughts from your mind and pick up the broken pieces(cross) and start again.

(Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus(Philippians 1:6)).

So no matter where you are or what you have done God is waiting for us to get back to him. But we need to remember that it is also our effort and our choice that brings us together with God and redeems us. So do not admit defeat of your circumstances and pick up your cross and follow him.

(Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (Matthew 16:24))

My Sunshine

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.(Revelation 21:23).

While I was getting my yearly health check up, I have been diagnosed with Vitamin-D deficiency. Vitamin-D is an important vitamin for our body which helps in absorption of calcium which makes our bones strong. The best source of Vitamin-D turns out to be the sun. So I was told to be in the sun everyday so that my bones do not become weak. No matter how many or how much supplements I take it doesn’t equal to being in the sun and letting my Body produce vitamin-D. Although we take our supplements it is recommended that sun is the best source of our Vitamin-D. While soaking up the sun I realized how much similar the spiritual being is to the physical being, the sun being our eternal God whose glory glows like the sun (At the transfiguration of Jesus, His face shone like the sun (Matthew 17:2)). We too become weak spiritually if we do not get the daily dose of our Spiritual Sun(God).

How often do we seek the comforts of our home and do not go out and seek the sun as it out of our comfort zone. How often do we get so busy in our own lives that we forget to soak up the sun on a beautiful day. How often do we reflect that having such a source of eternal light in our lives is gift that is always a constant. We have taken the sun granted without even realizing it.

If you feel that you have done all/any of that, today is the day God who is faithful (God is faithful, by whom you were called into the  fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Corinthians 1:9)) is waiting for you to seek him more intimately.

Though we are in darkness we know that the sun((Jesus) is shining waiting for us to come to light. (And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.(John 1:5)) So, let us not forget to get our daily dose of Vitamin-D for our souls by sitting with Lord in his presence.
